Following a brief gunfight on Sunday, the Delhi Police have detained a man who they believe shot and killed a taxi driver close to Red Fort, an officer said.
According to police, Firoz shot and killed a taxi driver on April 15 following a brief argument.
“On Sunday, an information was received regarding whereabouts of Firoz, which led to a face off with a police team,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) M K Meena said.
When Firoz was asked to surrender, he fired a gun shot at the police party.
“The police team also fired back in self defence. The accused has sustained injured in his left leg. He was immediately rushed to Aruna Asif Ali Hospital for medical care,” said the DCP.
Around midnight on April 15, a beggar named Luv Khush, 15, who lived in Palwal, and a 36-year-old taxi driver named Mohammad Sakib, who lived in Zakir Nagar, were both admitted to a hospital with gunshot wounds. Sakib passed away later.
It was discovered during the investigation that his Maruti Wagon-R and an e-rickshaw had collided at the Chatta Rail Red light at around one in the morning.
He got into a fight with the rickshaw driver after the e-rickshaw capsized. After the argument, there was a fight, and Sakib was attacked by three men. His pocket was picked during the brawl, and his cell phone was taken.
One of the attackers tried to escape, but Sakib caught him before he could shoot him and take off.
