New Delhi: In a heartbreaking incident, a 14-year-old girl and her 12-year-old sister tragically suffocated to death in a residential building fire in north Delhi’s Sadar Bazar area, as confirmed by the police.
The fire department received a distress call at 2.07 pm, prompting the dispatch of five fire tenders to the scene. Firefighters swiftly responded and rescued several individuals from the engulfed house, subsequently alerting the police, according to a senior Fire department official.
Upon receiving the call, officers from Sadar Bazar police station rushed to the site to assist. They discovered that a house on Sadar Bazar’s Chameliyan Road was ablaze. Four fire tenders managed to bring the fire under control.
Due to the dense smoke, rescue operations were challenging, requiring rescue teams to employ gas masks to enter the building, mentioned Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Manoj Kumar Meena.
Tragically, two sisters, Gulashna (14) and Anaya (12), were trapped inside the first-floor bathroom. Despite efforts to rescue them, both girls were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Fire officials revealed that the girls were rescued from the bathroom after breaking the door and immediately transported to the hospital for treatment.
The fire has since been extinguished, and the cooling process is ongoing. Initial investigations suggest that the blaze originated in a recreational room. A crime team has been summoned to the scene, and further proceedings are underway, as confirmed by the police.
