New Delhi: A political controversy arose earlier this week when YouTuber Kamiya Jani visited the Jagannath Temple in Puri, leading to accusations by the BJP against the state government for allegedly facilitating the entry of a “beef consumption promoter.” Jani, in response, issued a clarification asserting her identity as a practicing Hindu who has never consumed or promoted beef.

In a video on her Instagram page, Jani stated, “My motive behind going to Jagannath was to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath and present information about the temple’s infrastructure. I am a practicing Hindu. I have never eaten beef, and don’t promote it ever.”

Addressing the recent controversy, she emphasized the importance of putting out real facts and the truth. “This one incident, in no way, will shake my pride in my country and its rich culture. I am and will always be a proud Indian,” Jani affirmed.

The controversy unfolded when Jani posted a video highlighting Shree Jagannath’s culture, featuring bureaucrat-turned-BJD leader VK Pandian discussing various aspects of temple development. The BJP accused Pandian of allowing the entry of Jani, who allegedly promotes beef consumption, into the 12th-century shrine where the entry of non-Hindus is prohibited.

The Odisha unit of BJP posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “The sacred sanctity of Puri Srimandir, rich with historical and spiritual heritage, has been shamefully disregarded by VK Pandian, the chairman of 5T, who callously allowed a beef promoter into the revered premises of Jagannath Mandir. Those responsible must face swift and severe consequences.”

Jani clarified that photos showing her at a restaurant serving beef were from a video shot in Kerala, where she visited a famous eatery started by two truck drivers known for their beef dish. “Since I do not eat beef, I had veg black chana curry, rice appam, and banana fritters,” she explained, hoping to clear any misunderstanding among those who were hurt by the controversy.
