In a long-overdue crackdown, Corporation workers on Tuesday began removing unauthorised advertisement materials, including flex banners and signboards, illegally installed on electric poles across major roads in the city.

These banners, which promoted schools, real estate, shops, and other services, had proliferated due to the civic body’s inaction. In many areas, they obstructed vehicle movement and posed safety hazards to commuters.

Despite widespread complaints, no penalties had been imposed on violators until now. The clean-up operation marked the first serious effort to address the issue.

Corporation officials confirmed that the removal drive would continue in the coming days and warned that strict action would be taken against those who put up such illegal advertisements in the future.
