In a devastating case that has shaken Tamil Nadu, 27-year-old Rithanya died by suicide on June 28, 2025, after enduring weeks of alleged dowry-related harassment and emotional trauma. Her final act — sending seven heartbreaking voice notes to her father — lays bare the pain she carried silently.
“I am sorry, Dad. I don’t want anybody to save me this time,” she said in one of her last messages. “All this while, I hoped that my life would change. I’ve now realized that it won’t.”
Rithanya had married Kavin on April 11, 2025, with her parents reportedly offering 300 sovereigns of gold and a Volvo car worth ₹70 lakh as dowry. Though the first few weeks seemed peaceful, harassment began soon after. She was brought back to her parental home briefly but returned under pressure.
On June 22, Rithanya once again came home, appearing visibly low. She told her parents she wasn’t fighting with Kavin but simply wanted to stay. Earlier, she had confided: “She is being bullied at home; I can’t be there.” However, her parents, fearing societal judgement, encouraged her to endure the situation, a decision now under scrutiny.
On June 28, she drove to Mondipalayam temple, where she is believed to have consumed pesticide in her car. She was declared dead at Avinasi Government Hospital.
In her final voice notes, Rithanya blamed her husband, father-in-law, and mother-in-law for relentless mental and physical abuse. Her words are now crucial evidence as investigations proceed.
