Nagpur: In a chilling case of betrayal and murder, a 30-year-old woman in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district allegedly helped her lover smother her paralysed husband to death, before attempting to pass it off as a natural death.
The accused, Disha Ramteke, and her lover Asif Islam Ansari alias Rajababu Tyrewala, have been arrested for the premeditated murder of Chandrasen Ramteke (38), Disha’s husband of 13 years. The couple had two daughters and a six-year-old son.
Husband was bedridden, wife was allegedly in an extramarital affair
Chandrasen had suffered a paralytic stroke two years ago, which had left him completely bedridden and dependent. Disha, who sold water cans to run the household, reportedly started an extramarital relationship with Asif around two months ago.
According to police, Chandrasen had suspected his wife’s fidelity, and upon discovering her affair, the couple had a major argument. Enraged and fearing further conflict, Disha and Asif plotted to kill him.
Murder executed while husband was asleep
On Friday afternoon, when Chandrasen was asleep, Disha allegedly invited Asif to her home. While she held her paralysed husband down, Asif pressed a pillow over his face, smothering him to death.
After several hours, the couple claimed that Chandrasen was found unconscious. They tried to stage the scene as a natural death. However, suspicions arose and a post-mortem examination confirmed that the death was caused by asphyxiation, prompting a murder investigation.
Confession and arrest
Upon sustained interrogation, Disha confessed to the crime, implicating her lover Asif as the one who suffocated her husband while she pinned him down. Both have since been taken into custody.
The Nagpur police are investigating the case further, including digital communication records and the extent of premeditation involved. The murder has triggered shock and outrage locally, especially due to the helpless state of the victim and the cold, calculated manner in which the crime was executed.
