Five Drown in Animal Waste Slurry Pit, Bodies Retrieved

Ahmednagar: In a heart wrenching incident, five individuals lost their lives in an attempt to save cat that fell in animal waste slurry.

The tragic incident happened in Wakadi village in Nevasa tehsil in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra on Tuesday evening. Authorities have said that bodies of those drowned in the animal waste slurry have been retrieved post-midnight.

Police said, they were successful in recovering the bodies of the victims from the waste slurry in the biogas pit. The bodies were extracted around 12.30 am on Wednesday and sent to government hospital for post-mortem.

According to the police, the incident occurred when a cat fell into the pit, a person immediately descended for its rescue but unfortunately, he trapped in the sludge. In an effort to save the first rescuer, five others ventured down into the pit, only to meet the same fate.

Fortunately, one person was rescued successfully and he is receiving treatment at a hospital.
