Bengaluru: A delegation of BJP leaders met Election Commission officials on Wednesday and filed a complaint against independent candidate KS Eshwarappa for using Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photographs in his campaign.
Former minister KS Eshwarappa has announced that he would contest as an independent candidate from Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency following BJP leadership’s denial of a ticket to his son KE Kantesh from the Haveri-Gadag Lok Sabha segment.
The BJP team, led by its general secretary P Rajeev and MLC Chalwadi Narayanaswamy, submitted the complaint to the commission.
Speaking to reporters, Chalwadi Narayanaswamy said that Eshwarappa is using the PM’s photo in his election campaign. Since he is not a BJP candidate, he should not use the prime minister’s photo; he has no rights to use it.
“A complaint has been lodged with the Election Commission in this regard, urging the officials to take action,” he said and added that if Eshwarappa continues to use the photographs, exploring a legal option will become inevitable.
Just a few days ago, Eshwarappa had filed a caveat in a court in Shivamogga regarding the usage of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph during his campaign.
Eshwarappa has filed a caveat in the local court, anticipating that someone might attempt to legally prevent him from using the PM’s photo. He claims the right to use the PM’s photo, citing constitutional provisions.
Eshwarappa expressed displeasure at his son’s failure to secure a ticket and blamed former chief minister BS Yediyurappa for this.
He later announced his candidacy for the Lok Sabha election from Shivamogga, aiming to free the party from the influence of Yediyurappa and his sons.
