In a shocking incident, a 36-year-old man was brutally murdered in public during a religious procession near Dornala in Prakasam district late Friday night. The victim, Bairaboina Venkateshwarlu from Nallaguntla village, was participating in a Muharram procession when a group of assailants launched a sudden and violent attack.
According to police, the attackers ambushed Venkateshwarlu and killed him using axes, leaving him fatally injured on the spot. Eyewitnesses were left stunned as the killing unfolded in full public view. The assailants fled the scene immediately after committing the crime.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that the motive behind the murder may be a long-standing personal grudge. Around four years ago, Venkateshwarlu was reportedly involved in the murder of another man from the same village. Investigators believe that the current attack could be a retaliatory strike by the relatives or associates of the earlier victim.
The body was shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem. A case has been registered, and police teams have launched a manhunt to track down the accused, who remain at large.
