A 40-year-old female teacher from a well-known Mumbai school, arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a male student, has been granted bail by a special POCSO court. The judge cited the boy’s age (over 16), the absence of force in later interactions, and the teacher’s resignation as factors that weakened the “student-teacher dynamic.”
The woman was accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with the boy from January 2024 to February 2025, often at five-star hotels and in her car, after reportedly luring him with alcohol and anxiety medication. The FIR also alleged she used a colleague to help facilitate meetings. She was arrested after the student’s family approached the police.
In her defense, the teacher claimed the relationship was mutual and the FIR was instigated by the boy’s mother. She said the boy referred to her as his “wife,” had a tattoo of her name, and sent her affectionate notes—facts allegedly omitted from the complaint. She also pointed out procedural lapses during her arrest, including being handed documents in Marathi, a language she couldn’t read.
The court acknowledged the slow pace of trial proceedings and her responsibility as a single mother of two 11-year-old children, one of whom has a respiratory illness. Bail was granted against a ₹50,000 bond with conditions barring her from contacting the victim or leaving Mumbai.
Despite prosecution concerns about trauma and evidence tampering, the court emphasized that strict bail terms could mitigate any risks, warning that violations would lead to cancellation.
