The owner of Mathaa Hospital in Udayagiri, Mysuru, Dr. Chandan Ballal, has been taken into custody by the Bengaluru Police on charges of performing over 900 illegal abortions in collusion with a doctor from Chennai named Tulasiraman and seven other people.
According to early reports, Dr. Chandan is running away. He was, however, taken into custody by the Bengaluru police of Byappanahalli, bringing the total number of arrests to nine.
Dr. Tulasiraman, the manager of Mathaa Hospital and the spouse of Dr. Chandan Ballal, C.M. Meena, the hospital receptionist and a resident of Mandi Mohalla Rizma Khanum, and lab technician Nissar, Shivalingegowda, also known as Shivu from Mysuru, Nayan Kumar from Mandya, T.M. Veeresh from Davanagere, and Naveen Kumar from Mandya are among the other individuals arrested, in addition to Dr. Chandan Ballal.
Under interrogation, the defendant acknowledged terminating about 900 foetuses in a two-year period. Following his arrest on Saturday, Dr. Chandan Ballal is expected to provide more information when questioned, according to the police.
Seized are the Ayurvedic Piles Daycare Centre on Rajkumar Road in Mysuru and the Mathaa Hospital at Udayagiri. It is believed that many more districts may have been included in this illegal operation.
The Police claim that Dr. Tulasiraman began his career at the same hospital as a pediatrician, and that his mother was a well-known gynecologist in Mysuru. He eventually made abortion services his side gig. He worked with Dr. Chandan Ballal on that and made it his main business after his mother passed away.
Later, for private reasons, Dr. Tulasiraman moved to Chennai and sold his hospital to Dr. Chandan Ballal. They ran this illegal business together. The illegal activities were moved to the Ayurvedic Piles Daycare Centre on Rajkumar Road due to the regular influx of patients at Udayagiri Mathaa Hospital, the Police said.
