A 25-year-old woman from Odisha, in Hyderabad for surrogacy, died under suspicious circumstances after allegedly “falling” from a ninth-floor apartment on the night of November 25-26. Raidurgam police have charged a 54-year-old businessman, who had hired her for surrogacy, with abetment of suicide based on allegations by her husband.
The woman’s husband claimed she was sexually harassed by the businessman, leading her to take the extreme step. She had been living in the businessman’s flat for a month, while her husband stayed in a separate room within the same apartment. The businessman lived with his wife and family, and the surrogacy procedure was scheduled for next month.
Police found saris tied to an iron grill on the woman’s balcony, stretching from the ninth to the seventh floor. They suspect she may have tried to climb down to escape but are also considering possibilities of an accidental fall or suicide.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the sensitive nature of the allegations and circumstances. Authorities are investigating all angles to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
