Durg: In a deeply disturbing incident, a 3.5-year-old nursery student at Mother Teresa English Medium School in Bagdumar village, Durg district, was allegedly beaten and had tape stuck on her mouth by the school principal — reportedly for greeting with the phrase “Radhe Radhe.”

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning and has since sparked outrage. Based on the complaint and preliminary inquiry, school principal Ila Evan Colvin has been arrested under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
She has been booked under:
- BNS Section 115(2) – related to causing hurt
- Section 299 – related to intent-based offences
- Section 75 of the JJ Act – for cruelty to a child
According to police, the principal allegedly punished the child after she greeted school staff with “Radhe Radhe”, a traditional spiritual salutation. The First Information Report (FIR) details both physical abuse and emotional cruelty, sparking concerns over the child’s well-being.
Officials confirmed that the case is under further investigation, and authorities are coordinating with the Child Welfare Committee to ensure the child’s safety and care.
