In a deeply distressing incident, Jemala, a young nursing graduate from Karungal in Kanniyakumari district, was found dead on Friday afternoon, allegedly having died by suicide. Her family, however, suspects foul play and is demanding justice.
Jemala had married Nithin Raj, an engineering graduate from the same town, earlier this year in January, despite strong opposition from both families. According to reports, Nithin Raj was unemployed, and the couple often had frequent arguments related to financial instability.
Her parents were informed about her death via a shocking phone call, after which they rushed to a private hospital only to find their daughter’s lifeless body. They immediately filed a formal complaint at the Karungal police station, citing suspicions about the nature of her death.
Police have sent Jemala’s body for post-mortem examination at a government hospital, and an investigation is underway.
Adding to the emotional weight of the tragedy, Jemala’s relatives have refused to accept her body until those responsible are held accountable. The case echoes a recent suicide in Tirupur involving dowry harassment, bringing renewed attention to domestic strife and young women’s mental health.
Authorities are continuing their inquiry, and public pressure is mounting for a transparent and swift resolution.
