Bagalkot: After the elder sister Danamma Chichakhandi making a mark in international cycling and bringing laurels to the district and the State in the cycling field, now, the younger sister is following the tracks by getting selected for international cycling championship.
Nananda Chichakhandi, native of Navalagi village of the district, is participating in the Asian Track Cycling event to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia between June 14 and 19.
Interestingly, her elder sister Danamma had also participated in the same event in 2018 and had secured third position in the ten kilometer race.
Now, Nanda got selected to the under-18 category for girls for the same event.
Daughter of farmer Chennamallappa Chichakhandi, Nanda is the third child who is presently studying in PUC. She has got selected for cycling training at Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala, Punjab.
Nanda holds several records in the field of cycling where she has won third prize is State level Track cycling championship in 2018, second in 2019 event and she also participated in cross country event held in Uttarakhand in 2021.
Last year, she participated in a track event held in Assam.
Nanda had secured a gold medal in the 40 kilometer cycling championship held under the Union Government’s Khelo India programme in Vijayapura. She timed 1 hour and 28 minutes to cover the distance of 40 kilometers.
She is currently training in Punjab and hopes to bring a medal for the country in the coming event in Malaysia.
“ My sister has been a great inspiration for me. I am following her footsteps. I am confident of winning a medal in the Asian event”, she said.
