Bagalkot: Chaotic situation prevailed during the BJP district party workers’ meet on Monday June 26 when the members of two groups of the party were involved in verbal duel in the presence of Former Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai and other prominent leaders.

The incident started when one of the functionaries, Raju Revankar, demanded the leaders sitting on the stage to send those people outside the programme who have worked against the party in the recent assembly elections.

Pointing at BJP’s District Doctor’s Cell president, Dr. Shekhar Mane and other leaders Shambhugouda Patil and Chandrakant Kesanur, Revanakar alleged that they have worked against party’s official candidate, Veeranna Charantimath in the polls.

The outburst of Revankar in the meeting which was attended by the several prominent leaders of the party, led to creation of a chaotic situation.

Later, several other party workers joined Revankar who also urged the party leaders to send Dr. Mane and others out of the event as they had betrayed the party in the election.

“ These are people who have worked against the party and the candidate. They don’t deserve to be here in the party’s meeting. They should be sent out immediately”, the supporters of Charantimath demanded.

Former Minister Govind Karjol tried to control the situation and appealed to the workers to end the matter, but the workers did not seem to heed him.

Intervening in the matter, Charantimath appealed to the party workers to stay calm. He threatened to leave the function if the workers did not stop quarrelling.

Later, Charantimath who took the mic, alleged that Dr. Mane and MLC P. H. Pujar has tried to prevent the installation of the statue of Shivaji Maharaj in the city.

When Dr. Mane tried to reach the stage to speak, the workers prevented him. Sensing the situation, the police rushed to the stage and took Dr. Mane and his supporters outside the function hall.

The event resumed only after Dr. Mane’s exit from the venue.
