Belagavi: Drivers killed as school bus collides with truck

Belagavi: A truck and a school bus collided on Saturday August 20 at Athani in the Belagavi district, killing the drivers of both vehicles. Ten of the 50 students who were inside bus with sustained injuries.

The incident happened when a school bus carrying 60 students of Banajwad English Medium School, Athani, were travelling in the bus to reach the school at Shedbal road. A container vehicle, which was heading towards Athani from Shedbal road, collided with the bus which was coming from the opposite direction. The front part of the bus and the truck were completely damaged following the collision.

The drivers of both vehicles died on the spot. Luckily, the students only sustained minor injuries. Around 30 students were taken to hospitals with minor wounds. The rest were sent back with their parents.

The Taluk Administration’s rescue team, fire station officials, and police rushed to the spot and transferred the injured to hospitals. The site was visited by District SP Sanjeev Patil and Additional SP Mahaning Nandagavi to assess the situation.
