Dharwad: Dharwad MP Prahlad Joshi has alleged that the state government was showing lethargic attitude in implementing the programmes funded by the Centre.

Speaking to media persons here to mark the third anniversary of BJP-led NDA government in the Centre, Joshi said be it road development, distribution of crop compensation, taking new development initiatives, the state was lagging behind and not co-operating with the Centre. The Centre may release funds under different heads but the implementation part lies with the state administration which has failed drastically, he added.

Crop insurance
“The farmers of the district who suffered heavy loss due to drought situation during the last rabi season, would soon be getting crop insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bheema Yojana (PMFBY).

This crop insurance would be the highest claim and would help the farmers to improve their condition,” he said.

“Already the Centre has released Rs 172 Crore to the district for the kharif crop loss last year and 89,000 farmers would be benefitted from this. Though the amount has already been released, the state government is not showing a keen interest in remitting it to the bank accounts of the farmers,” he charged.

Roads

On road development, MP said more number of roads would be developed in twin cities. “The centre has sanctioned a sum of Rs 468 Crore for the development of roads in Dharwad district including the national highways and two flyovers at Traffic Island in Hubballi and at Jubilee Circle in Dharwad would come up”, he said.

He expressed concern over BRTS road work getting delayed due to lethargic attitude by officials. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has assured of granting additional Rs 1000 Crore to Dharwad district, once the utilisation certificate of the present works is given, he added.

The Hubballi-Dharwad bypass road would be upgraded to eight lane, the survey work in this regard is completed he said.

The Centre was keen to approve a state of the art facility Cancer Institute and Research Centre to Dharwad and the government has been asked to identify land in this regard, he said.

Railways
“The Centre has sanctioned Rs 2490 Crore for the SWR in 2015-16 and Rs 2779 Crore for 2016-17. This apart, the railway track-doubling work between Dharwad and Bengaluru is expected to be completed by 2020,” he said.

Airport

Joshi said the runway expansion work at the Hubballi Airport had been completed and now Boeings too could be landed there. One private carrier had agreed to launch Boeing facility in Hubballi in next 45 days, he added.

MLA Arvind Bellad and others were present.
