Gadag: A young couple allegedly died by suicide Naregal town in Gajendragad taluke of Gadag district, on Friday night. The deceased have been identified as Appanna Goraki and Lalitha Halageri.
According to reports, Appanna and Lalitha were in a relationship, which they kept it secret and did not share this with either with their friends or to their families. Lalitha was recently married to another man in an arranged marriage on April 4. And after spending four-five days at his husband’s house returned to her marital home as a part of marriage ritual. However, on Friday (April 12), she left her marital home and found dead on the outskirts of the town.
Appanna, her lover also left his residence on the same night. Their bodies were discovered later, hanging from a tree, police suspecting that they both hanged themselves to the death and believing that they planned their deaths together.
The couple’s decision of taking extreme step has left their families devastated. Appanna’s parents, who relied on him for financial support, were inconsolable. The reason behind their drastic action remains unclear. Police are investigating the case from all angles, including the possibility of foul play, said senior police officers from the Gadag district.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Naregal town. Lalitha, a BE engineering graduate who worked in Bengaluru, and Appanna, a laborer, belonged to different social circles. Despite the disparity, their secret love affair revealed in this heartbreaking manner.
The Naregal police are investigating the case from all the angles, and trying to find the exact reason for their extreme step.
