Udupi: Former minister Araga Jnanendra has urged his close friend, former minister K S Eshwarappa, to withdraw his nomination filed as an independent candidate from the Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency.

Jnanendra said they have strong friendship and appealed to Eshwarappa to reconsider his decision, citing the tough challenge posed by current Lok Sabha MP BY Raghavendra, who is seeking re-election from this seat.

Eshwarappa may have gained insight into the situation during his constituency visits. There’s still time for him to reconsider his candidacy; otherwise, he’ll soon realize his electoral strength.

Jnanendra praised Raghavendra’ work in the Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency as an MP, stating that neither Eshwarappa nor Geetha Shivarajkumar stands a chance against him.

Eshwarappa’s decision to contest independently stems from his dissatisfaction with his party. He expressed frustration over the BJP high command’s refusal to give his son KE Kantesh a ticket from the Haveri-Gadag Lok Sabha constituency. He blamed the party decision to deny ticket to former CM BS Yediyurappa and later made an announcement to contest from the Shivamogga seat, vowing to defeat BY Raghavendra.

Eshwarappa filed his nomination on Friday, he reiterated that his decision to contest the election is final.
