Belagavi: A family of a COVID-19 victim set an ambulance ablaze and also tried to assault the hospital staff here, after the announcement of the death of the COVID-19 patient, on Wednesday, July 22.
In a video, the ambulance is seen engulfed in massive fire, while the firefighters are seen trying to extiniguish the blaze.
It is said that the 55-year-old had died in the ICU of the BIMS Hospital (dedicated COVID-19 Hospital) here, after complaining of breathing problems. His COVID test reports came positive and he died while being treated in the ICU.
However, on knowing about the death, his relatives created ruckus. First, they pelted stones at the hospital, tried to assaut the Group D workers, chased the medical staff and then set an ambulance ablaze.
A constable who arrived at the spot too was injured, said sources.
A case has been registered and the police is on the lookout for the accused.
Karnataka, on Wednesday reported the biggest single-day spike of 4,764 new COVID-19 cases and 55 fatalities, taking the total number of infections to 75,833 and the death count 1,519, the health department said.
