Vijayapura: Accusing the Congress of keeping the North Karnataka region backward without ensuring adequate funds for the development of this region, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai claimed that it was Former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa who works for the development of this region.

“It is our BJP Government which took serious note of the Nanjundappa Committee Report on the backwardness of the NK region and launched development works. It was first started by Yediyurappa which is being continued even by our Government,” he said.

Speaking after laying foundation stone for various development works on Muddebihal Taluk in Nalatwad Village of the District on Tuesday March 21, he said that major irrigation projects such as Guttibasavanna, Chimmalagi and Mulawad were pending for long.

“Our Government made sure that the project work not only gets resumed but also expedited. As a result of which, these mega projects have taken shape, but such strong decisions could not be taken by the previous Congress Government,” he said.

CM Bommai alleged that the Congress Government only ordered for the tender to complete the canal network without ensuring the supply of water to the canals.

“The canal network was built only to allocate tender and make money. The Congress which minted money in tendering of canal works, today is giving a moral lecture to us on corruption,” he remarked.

He said that while the Congress had promised to outlay Rs. 10,000 Crore annually for Upper Krishna Project, granted only around Rs. 6,000 Crore in its five year tenure.

Bommai said for Muddebihal Taluk alone, his Government has granted Rs. 4000 Crore.

The CM claimed his Government has spent around Rs. 2 Lakh Crore in three years for the development of the State. Informing that the works under Jal Jivan Mission and Jala Dhare are underway in the District to provide tap water facility, he said that already while 2.8 Lakh houses of the total 4.6 Lakh houses of the District have got tap water facility, remaining will be covered in coming days.

He alleged that while the Congress which only took votes of SC/ST without giving them benefits, it is the BJP that took the challenge of increasing the quota for them for their development.
