1 % reservation for transgender compulsory in all Govt Dept

Bengaluru: The Karnataka Government has announced 1 per cent reservation for transgenders in all the government department appointments.

An order in this will be issued through Chief Secretary soon, informed Minister for Women and Child Welfare Department Halappa Achar.

Replying to a question raised by MLC Bharati Shetty, he informed that the government is committed to ensuring that transgenders will get 1 per cent reservation in all the government departments.

According to the 2011 census, there are 20,266 transgenders in Karnataka. Recently, the State Police and Education Department also reserved 1 per cent reservation for transgenders in their respective department wise recruitment.
