The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court in Bengaluru has sentenced three individuals to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹36,000 each for their involvement in the violent mob attack on DJ Halli and KG Halli police stations in August 2020.

The convicted men—Syed Ikramuddin (also known as Syed Naveed), Syed Atif, and Mohammed Atif—pleaded guilty before NIA Special Court judge Kemparaju. With their admission, they became the first to be convicted in this high-profile case. Trials for the remaining accused are yet to begin.

These three were listed as the 14th, 16th, and 18th accused out of 199 people named in the case. Of the total, 187 were arrested, four later surrendered, and one individual passed away. The NIA has filed formal chargesheets against 138 individuals so far.

The case pertains to the night of August 11, 2020, when a crowd of nearly 25–30 people gathered near the KG Halli police station around 9 PM. The group was protesting against a relative of then-Pulakeshinagar MLA Akhand Srinivasa Murthy, who allegedly posted offensive content about Prophet Mohammed online.

The situation quickly escalated under the leadership of Syed Ikramuddin, prompting authorities to impose Section 144 of the CrPC. Despite these efforts, the protest turned into a full-scale riot, resulting in widespread destruction of both public and private property.

Thirteen vehicles were damaged in the unrest, including an Innova, five two-wheelers, and seven other vehicles.
