In a deeply disturbing incident, a man has been apprehended in Bengaluru’s Govindapura locality for reportedly assaulting a young woman in a public setting by kissing her forcibly and biting her lip.
As per police sources, the victim had stepped out to purchase household supplies when the suspect, identified as Mohammad Maroof Sharief, allegedly began trailing her. He then acted indecently, approached her on a busy street, and forcibly kissed and bit her lips. The woman managed to break free and ran home to inform her mother, who promptly contacted the authorities. A case was registered at the Govindapura Police Station, leading to Maroof’s arrest under charges of sexual harassment and indecent conduct in public.
This event is among several recent cases highlighting a troubling rise in public harassment. On June 6, two separate instances of inappropriate behaviour were reported near Milton Park in Cooke Town. Around 7 PM, a man misbehaved with a woman walking with her family. Shortly afterward, the same individual allegedly entered the park and forcefully hugged and kissed another woman. When confronted, he shamelessly remarked, “Telling anyone won’t change anything,” before escaping.
Additionally, a separate incident from April 3 was caught on CCTV in BTM Layout. Around 1:55 AM, a man followed two women and suddenly groped one of them before fleeing. The footage went viral online, sparking public outrage and renewing concerns about women’s safety in the city.
