Bengaluru: Sachchidananda Murthy(81), a retired engineer fell into the shaft of a lift in Fortis hospital on Nagarbhavi road in the city.
The freak incident occured on Thursday evening when he had taken his wife Lovely Devi(72) to the hospital for dialysis. Before leaving from the hospital, he realised he had to collect the bill and medical papers and returned to the the hospital and waited for a lift at the basement. As soon as he pressed the button, the door opened automatically even though lift was on the third floor. Murthy assumed that the lift had arrived and stepped in and fell into the shaft pit.
Murthy’s wife and driver went and informed hospital authorities. In the CCTV footage they saw Murthy getting inside the lift, when security guards were asked to open th lift door, Murthy was found dead in a pool of blood.
Murthy a resident of Vijayanagar, was working in a private firm in Mysuru and was living with his family from the last few years.
A case has been registered against the hospital authorities for negligence.
