Bengaluru: The state government decided to continue the exemption for the midday meal without onion and garlic supplied by Akshaya Patra Foundation. In the state, the foundation is supplying a mid-day meal for over 1.83 lakh students on a daily basis.

KG Jagadish, commissioner for Department of Public Instruction (DPI) confirmed the exemption. He stated that even though onion and garlic are not used for the mid-day meal, the nutritional quality remains the same.

It can be recalled that there was a hue and cry against the mid-day meal supplied by the Akshaya Patra foundation across the state as the foundation is not willing to use the onion and garlic in the food citing traditional Indian food system.
