Anees Salim wins literary award

Bengaluru: Bangalore Literature Festival – 2017 and city-based bookstore Atta Galatta announced the annual Atta Galatta-Bengaluru Literature Festival Book Prize 2017 on Saturday.

Anees Salim has bagged the Best Fiction (English) prize for his recent novel Small Town Sea , while senior author Ruskin Bond has been awarded the Best Non-Fiction (English) for his memoirs Lone Fox Dancing . Meanwhile, author Twinkle Khanna has been adjudged for the Popular Choice (English) award for her short story collection The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad.

Senior Kannada writer and Sahitya Akademi award winner Bolwar Mahammad Kunhi has been awarded this year’s Kannada Literary Achievement award, a lifetime achievement award for Kannada. Kannada poets K.V. Tirumalesh and Pratibha Nandakumar have received the award for the past two years since it was instituted.

The final jury was headed by writers Kanishk Tharoor for the Fiction Category and Akshaya Mukul for the Non-Fiction Category. The jury for the Literary Achievement Award in Kannada was headed by writers S. Siddalingiah and Chandan Gowda. There were a total of 120 books considered for Fiction (English) and 100 books for the Non-Fiction (English), and about 60 books for Popular Choice (English).

The awards will be distributed on October 29, the second day of the Bangalore Literature Festival – 2017 at Hotel Lalit Ashok.
