GD Prasad, a prominent figure from Bengaluru who gained recognition on Shark Tank India, recently commended the Vande Bharat train services operating in South India. As the founder of VS Mani & Co, a renowned coffee brand based in Bengaluru, Prasad has urged the Indian Railways to include snacks from South Indian brands on Vande Bharat trains serving the region.
Expressing his appreciation for the Vande Bharat Express trains in South India, Prasad emphasized the importance of representing more regional brands on the snack trays. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he tagged the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Railways, and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, seeking government support for this initiative.
In his tweet, Prasad shared a photo of a snack tray onboard a Vande Bharat Express, which currently features snacks like Haldiram’s peanut brittle, Bikaji bhujia, Girnar masala tea, and ketchup sachets. He highlighted the potential to include South Indian delicacies such as filter coffee and traditional snacks if given the opportunity.
The first Vande Bharat Express in South India was inaugurated in 2022, operating between Chennai, Mysuru, and Bengaluru. Notably, Bengaluru hosts Vande Bharat train services connecting various destinations including Dharwad, Belagavi, Hubballi, Chennai, Coimbatore, Mysuru, and Hyderabad.
Prasad, along with his co-founders Rahul Bajaj and Yashas Alur, made a significant impact on the second season of Shark Tank India, securing funding for their venture. Their appearance on the show resulted in an investment of ₹19 lakh for 1% equity and ₹41 lakhs debt at 10% interest, valuing the company at ₹19 crores. Anupam Mittal, one of the judges, had already invested in VS Mani before their participation in the reality show.
