Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday December 7 said that the government had formed a scheme for the benefit of the elderly under which anyone 60 and older will receive free eye tests and vision correction procedures.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Narayana Nethralaya free eye clinic at Shettihalli in the district, he said that the scheme will be implemented in January.
Bommai urged Dr. Bhujang Shetty to lead the programme.
Karnataka would be the first state in the country to provide free medical care to the poor. For hearing-impaired implants, a plan of Rs. 500 Crore has been devised.
“By opening 12 additional cancer treatment centres, the dialysis cycle has been increased from 30,000 to 60,000 and the chemotherapy cycle has been doubled. The general medical check-up camps will be held in every taluk and district,” he said.
