The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing to expand the Bengaluru–Kolar stretch of NH-75 into a ten-lane express corridor, according to a report by The Times of India. This ambitious upgrade comes in response to rising traffic congestion and the growing volume of freight from industrial hubs east of Bengaluru.

The revamped corridor will feature six main carriageway lanes dedicated to through traffic, accompanied by two service lanes on either side. The goal is to improve long-term regional connectivity while relieving pressure on daily commuters and freight carriers.

Stretching from Hoskote, approximately 32 km from Bengaluru, to the Andhra Pradesh border near Kolathur, the project aligns with two major infrastructure links: the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR) and the partially opened Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway. Together, they form a 69 km integrated network across Karnataka.

“The expansion will decongest routes leading to Kolar, Bangarpet, and Mulbagal, and ease freight movement to Narasapura’s industrial zone,” an NHAI official stated. With land acquisition already completed, construction is expected to begin shortly.

Plans also include access-controlled entry and exit points to maintain smooth traffic flow. The Hoskote toll plaza, which handles over 45,000 vehicles daily, remains a major bottleneck. A proposed elevated corridor from KR Pura to Hoskote is pending clearance.

In related updates, the long-delayed 800-metre Katamanallur flyover is now 85% complete and partially operational. Additionally, a 20 km link connecting the expressway to Tamil Nadu near Hosur is nearing its August launch.
