Bengaluru: An FIR has been lodged against seven individuals in connection with creating and spreading fake news against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Miscreants created a fake newspaper clipping in Kannada, with a headline roughly translating to, “We Don’t Need Hindu Voters’ Votes, Muslim Votes Are Enough.”
On Tuesday, the Chief Minister took to social media, condemning the opposition for peddling fake and deceptive posts, and warned that he would take this issue to logical end. Following his announcement, Harish Nagaraju, a resident of Govindraj Nagar, Bengaluru, filed an FIR against seven miscreants for allegedly creating fake news and allegedly spreading on social media platforms with the intention of dividing society, inflaming communal tensions, and projecting the CM against a particular community.
In his complaint, Harish Nagaraju named the seven individuals. The Bengaluru West CEN police have registered an FIR against these individuals under IPC sections 419 (cheating by personation), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 469 (forgery for the purpose of harming reputation), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), 153(a) (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language), 505(2) (related to public mischief) read with 120(b), and sections 66, 66(c), 66(d) of the IT Act.
