Bengaluru: In a concerning development, more than 15 prominent schools in Bengaluru, particularly in the Basaveshwaranagara and Yelahanka Police Division areas, have received bomb threats via email. This alarming situation has led to the prompt deployment of bomb squads and heightened security measures across the affected educational institutions.

The threats came to light as school staff accessed their emails, encountering messages that explicitly mentioned potential bomb threats. In response, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda confirmed the swift deployment of bomb detection and disposal units to thoroughly inspect the premises of the targeted schools.

“Police teams, alongside bomb detection and disposal units, have been mobilized to the respective locations,” stated Commissioner Dayananda. This immediate response aims to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and the school community.

In reaction to the bomb threats, one of the affected schools took quick action, notifying parents about the security risk and facilitating the safe return of students to their homes. Anxious parents flocked to the schools, anxiously awaiting the safe retrieval of their children amid the heightened security situation.

The authorities are actively investigating the source of these bomb threats. As part of their efforts, they are reviewing CCTV footage from the schools to identify any potential suspects involved in sending the threatening emails. Law enforcement has urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.

This incident is unfortunately not the first time Bengaluru schools have been targeted with bomb threats. In a similar occurrence last year on the same day, 30 schools in the city received threats via email. Despite these repeated incidents, no arrests have been made in connection with the previous threats.

The recurrence of such threats underscores the need for enhanced security measures and vigilance within educational institutions. It also highlights the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement, school authorities, and the community to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff. The ongoing investigation will likely shed light on the motives behind these threats and pave the way for preventive measures to safeguard against future incidents.
