Bengaluru: With the idea of fielding a strong candidate against Congress stalwart Mallikarjuna Kharge from the Kalaburugi Lok Sabha constituency, the BJP and the RSS are trying to woo Umesh Jadhav, Congress MLA from Chincholi.
Jadhav belongs to the strong Lambani community. The BJP and the RSS strategy is that they can defeat Kharge by consolidating SC (Left), Lambani and Lingayat votes, which are numerically significant in this constituency.
According to the sources, the BJP and the RSS leaders have held two rounds of talks with Jadhav. As per the proposal, if Jadhav crosses over to the BJP, then his son will be given a ticket in the Chincholi by-election, besides bearing all the poll expenses.
“Jadhav is yet to get back on our offer,” said a BJP leader who is part of the negotiations.
