A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 14-year-old girl on the outskirts of Bengaluru, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Yellappa from Raichur, worked as a construction labourer. According to the Tavarekere police, the victim’s parents, who are also construction workers from Kolar, had previously interacted with Yellappa, who was familiar with their routine.
On Wednesday afternoon, Yellappa allegedly went to the family’s residence while the parents were away. When they returned later in the day, they found their daughter unresponsive and rushed her to the hospital, where she was declared dead.
Authorities launched an investigation and sent the body for postmortem. Based on CCTV footage and other evidence, police tracked Yellappa’s movements and apprehended him on Wednesday night.
A case has been registered under relevant legal provisions. Officials stated that further investigation is ongoing and assured that legal proceedings will be carried out swiftly.
