Bengaluru: The State Public Works Department(PWD) does not have any details about the dates on which state power centers Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha were inaugurated. Interestingly, the same department which funds such projects has information about foundation stone laying ceremony. These startling facts were revealed by congress legislative council member V S Ugrappa during the latest assembly session.
Being a member of the upper house ,V S Ugrappa, out of curiosity had sought information about the inaugural dates of these two landmarks in the state, called ‘power centers’. To his surprise, the PWD department in response only provided information on the foundation stone lying ceremony date and expressed its inability to provide all other details sought by him.
Records are not available with PWD on the date of inauguration of Vidhana Soudha which was completed in the year 1956. None knows under which chief minister’s tenure, the buildings were completed and later inaugurated.
V S Ugrappa is still searching reasons as to why the vital data of a country’s landmark building, next only to parliament house in New Delhi is missing from PWD records.
