Davanagere: The polling station registration officers should take up the task of updating the voters’ list very carefully, instructed Transport Department Secretary and Special Officer for Revision of Electoral Rolls Dr. N. V. Prasad.
Speaking at a meeting on special revision of electoral rolls at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here on Friday November 25 he said that the voters’ list should not be banned without bringing it to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner. He said that rules should be strictly followed while removing the dead, and fake voters among others from the list. While deleting the name from the voters’ list, it is mandatory to check whether all the rules have been followed, whether the guidelines have been followed, he said.
“Booth-level officials cannot remove the list of deletions as soon as they are given, and each of which should have supporting documents. Whether the voters are present at the place or in the Constituency or not should be reviewed again and then a decision should be taken,” he said.
After the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Shivanand Kapasi informed that there are 1,683 polling booths in the District. So far, 30,000 voters have been added to the electoral rolls. As many as 81,000 voters have been excluded from the electoral rolls.
