Bengaluru: Diwali celebrations took a grim turn in Bengaluru as at least 26 individuals, including children, were hospitalized due to eye injuries sustained while bursting firecrackers. The incidents occurred on Sunday night, with 22 people admitted to Narayana Nethralaya and four receiving treatment at Minto Hospital.
Out of the total, 12 individuals are facing critical eye injuries. The health department has implemented measures at government-run Victoria Hospital and Minto Hospitals, ensuring round-the-clock facilities during the festive season. Medical professionals are on standby to attend to patients suffering from injuries caused by firecrackers.
Minto Hospital has established a dedicated ward with 15 beds for children, while ten beds each are reserved for women and youth. Meanwhile, Victoria Hospital has created a separate ward to address burn injuries resulting from firecracker accidents, excluding eye injuries.
Doctors are urging the public to exercise caution while celebrating Diwali, emphasizing the potential risks associated with bursting crackers. The unfortunate incidents highlight the need for heightened awareness and safety measures during festive occasions to prevent such injuries.
