Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said the state government would not stop Yettinahole project, aimed at supplying drinking water to 68 lakh people in seven districts, at any cost.
Speaking at a meeting convened at his home office Krishna to discuss problems and confusion in implementing Yettinahole project, the chief minister said the state government has taken up the project to supply drinking water to Kolar, Chikballapur, Bengaluru rural, Ramanagar, Tumkur, Hassan and some parts of Chikmagalur district.
“The project is essential to ensure drinking water supply to these districts. The water will not be utilized for irrigation purpose except for drinking purpose. So, there will be no problems for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts with the implementation of Yettinahole project,’’ the chief minister said.
He said the purpose of Yettinahole project was to ensure drinking water supply through Hesaraghatta and Thippagondanahalli reservoirs and fill up 527 water bodies. “Twenty four TMC of water – 15.029 TMC for drinking water and 8.967 TMC water to fill up 527 water bodies – is required. Under this project, water will be utilized between June 15 and October 31 every year,’’ he said.
