Bengaluru: Independent candidates, a woman and her husband who were contesting in the upcoming BBMP election, were kidnapped here on Monday August 10.
The kidnappers took them to Tamil Nadu and escaped leaving them. It is learnt that both of them are safe.
Kidnappers abducted Chandrashekhar and Nagalaxmi from Yelahanka on Monday morning and left them in Tamilnadu and escaped. Nagalaxmi was to contest in the elections from Choudeshwari ward no 2.
Monday was the last date for filing nominations and both of them were fielded as independent candidates. To stop them from filing nominations, a gang of four members abducted them. Nagalaxmi had complained to the Yelahanka police that she has been receiving threat calls allegedly not to contest in the elections by unknown persons. She also stated in the complaint that unknown vehicles were being parked in front of her residence.
Candidates were asked to submit nomination files on Monday before 3pm. On Monday Congress 133, BJP 107, JDS 74 and many other parties altogether filed 619 nominations.
