In a significant milestone for India’s metro rail expansion, Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) received its first fully Indian-made driverless train for the Yellow Line on Monday. Manufactured by Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd at its Uttarpara facility in West Bengal, this train is poised to transform urban transportation in Bengaluru.

The advanced stainless steel train is designed with cutting-edge automation and state-of-the-art performance features. It is set to operate on the 18-km Yellow Line, linking Electronics City to the rest of the city.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, highlighted the achievement during an online event. “This milestone demonstrates India’s strides in metro rail technology. With over 1,000 kilometers of metro tracks in operation, we are now the third-largest globally, and we are on course to surpass the United States within five years,” he remarked.

Umesh Chowdhary, Managing Director of Titagarh Rail Systems, underlined the importance of the train. “This is the first fully Indian-made stainless steel Metro train for Bengaluru’s Yellow Line. It highlights our country’s growing capabilities in local manufacturing and supports the vision of a self-sufficient and developed India,” he noted.

The introduction of this driverless train is a major leap in India’s journey towards advanced, self-reliant urban mobility solutions.
