Bengaluru: A Letter Rogatory has been issued by the NIA Special Court in the city to the authorities in Saudi Arabia to collect evidence related to a suspected terrorist who is said to have links with his counterparts in Pakistan.
The Letter Rogatory which is a formal request from a court to a foreign court for judicial assistance will help the National Investigation Agency in collecting evidences against Asad Khan aka Abu Sufiyan aka Asadullah Khan.
Judge B Muralidhara Pai, NIA Special Court, who allowed the application filed by the NIA, Hyderabad said that the facts and circumstances indicate the need of issuing a letter of request as sought by NIA so as to enable it to collect vital and material evidence in the ongoing investigation against Asad Khan.
Asad Khan aka Abu Sufiyan aka Asadullah Khan (48), a resident of Lancer Road, Masab Tank, Hyderabad, was arrested on August 12, 2015, at CSI Airport, Mumbai. He is accused No. 24 in a case which is being investigated by the NIA.
According to NIA, the conspiracy was hatched in Saudi Arabia. The NIA team sought bank account statements, other documents and call records pertaining to Khan. This could be done only with the assistance of Saudi authorities.
