Bengaluru: Every year has to see a new drama being introduced on Valentine’s day, and this year, it is the ban on liquor, causing a painful sting to all Bangalore pubs and bars. However, this year, the reason is not so much the lover’s day than the upcoming elections which are to take place around this day. 

The elections are for the Bangalore Teachers Constituency Assembly. Liquor business makes up for 60 crore of the overall revenue, now causing the government a huge loss. That said, the two day ban is only going to lead to a loss of more than a hundred crores. The loss is, in fact, more as sale of liquor is always known to be double than what it otherwise is, on Valentine’s day.

This has set the entire industry in a state of disappointment, as they foresee many event disruptions and loss of reservations. 

According to a liquor store owner in East Bengaluru, the two day ban will cost him two lakh a day, bringing a huge loss to his business. Other stores foresee the same, which is why a lot of them have begun to look for innovative ways to attract customers to their bars, pubs and restaurants on that day, bringing into the menu, some new and innovative dishes that they can feast on in the absence of alcohol on that day. 

Added to this, is the fact that pious Christians won’t be heading to the bars this Valentine’s day, which falls on the first day of lent, which is Ash Wednesday. That said,. We just have to wait and see what happens and whether these businesses have some hope this Valentine’s day.
