Bengaluru: After a long wait of five years, the Congress, in a clear act against the opposition, went ahead with the plan of constructing a 10 storey annex inside the premises of Bangalore’s most cherished Cubbon Park, which is seen as the largest lung space in the city.
The plan was always met with a lot of opposition from heritage lovers and other environmentalists, with a number of meetings conducted to address the situation. It was there that a decision was made to construct the building in the place of the old election commissioner’s office.
It is for this reason that the decision of the Congress has come out as a shock to environmentalists who strongly feel that the plan will only go on to destroy one of the only open spaces in the city.
President of the park’s walker’s association S Kumar states that this building will not just encroach on the area but also cause an increase in the already heavy traffic there.
It is with this view in mind that the president urged the government to address the concern.
