Bengaluru: Once the most fearful weapon against the corrupt, the Karnataka Lokayukta Police is now just 350 cases away from shutting its the doors. Yes, looking at the current scenario, the Lokayukata police division, which put corrupt persons into jail, is now counting its own days!
The Lokayukta police, who lost all their powers to Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) which was formed by the Congress government, has a mere 350 pending cases to solve! The government is considering of transferring the staff to ACB and other departments and close the division itself. Now, in every aspect, the allegation that the ACB was formed to weaken the Lokayuktha seems true!
The Lokayukta police have speeded the investigation of the pending cases. They are also preparing the charge sheets. Out of 350, around 35% cases belong to Bengaluru Urban Lokayukta Police Division, the government has directed to submit the charge sheets to the court at the earliest, said a senior police officer.
Staff crunch
In many cases, the complainants drop the cases in the middle. Lokayukta is facing staff crunch, investigation should be conducted using the available staff. After the ACB came into existence, the Lokayukta police have come to being mere paper tigers. Neither can they act on the criminals not can they register cases, leaving them with no new cases.
Meanwhile, Lokayukta SP Pavan Nijduru said that in spite of indepth investigation and powerful charge sheet, many cases are dropped in the Lokayukta Court for lack of evidence. “I request the court to follow the legal procedure because justice should be with the innocent people,” he requested.
