Man-eater tragedy: Minister Anand Singh announces ex-gratia to victim child’s parents

Tumakuru: Minister for Forest Anand Singh has said that he will issue an order to gun down the man-eater that has claimed four lives in Tumakuru so far.

Addressing the reporters, the minister said that the order will be issued on March 2.

The move come in after a two-and-half-year-old baby girl named as Chandana was killed by a Leopard on Saturday evening when she was playing outside her house, at Baichenahalli village of Hebbur hobli in Tumakuru taluk.

This is the fourth killing over the last six months in the region.

Speaking about the tragic episode, the minister said that the department cannot remain quite anymore.

“If it was one case, we could have had chalked out ways to trap the Leopard. With four killings, we will have to gun down the man-eater,” said the minister adding that a compensation of Rs 10 lakhs will be given to the family of the child.

Tumakuru (Rural) MLC DC Gowrishankar has given Rs 2 lakhs on his personal behalf to the parents of the child.

Earlier, when District in-charge minister Madhuswamy visited the parents of the deceased child, the couple had said that they do not want compensation, while the same amount could be given as prize money to the ones who kill the man -eater.
