Bengaluru: BBMP marshals, on day one, collected Rs 39,000 in fines from those who were found in public places without masks.
“Fines were collected from 197 persons, which came up to a total of Rs 39,400,” informed a BBMP officer.
According to the BBMP authorities, starting from May 5, it was decided not to collect fines from people not wearing masks. “However, with a sudden spurt in the number of cases, we decided to re-start this,” they said.
Meanwhile, the state government has decided to make mask wearing compulsory in all cities. “Soon, a direction will be issued to collect fines from those who do not wear masks,” informed an officer from the state urban development department.
