Bengaluru: On April 20, the IT department officials were shocked to find money being transported from Bengaluru to Bhadravati. The bundles of notes were hidden inside stepney tyre. Now it is confirmed that the seized money belonged to a JDS leader from Bhadravati.
According to the IT department sources, the money belonged to Appaji Gowda, former MLA of Bhadravati and a JDS leader.
It can be recalled that on April 20, IT officers informed that, based on credible intelligence that cash would be transported from Bengaluru to Shivamogga and Bhadravati, a cash handler was intercepted and his vehicle was searched. Cash in Rs.2000 denomination notes were found stuffed inside the stepney wheel of the vehicle. Rs. 2.30 crore was found.
On Monday, a team of IT officers quizzed Appaji Gowda at his residence in Bhadravati.
Speaking to the media, Appaji Gowda confirmed that the money belongs to him. “I had sold a site in Bengaluru ten months ago. It is the same money,” he said.
Meanwhile, BJP Shivamogga district unit alleged that this IT investigation confirmed that the JDS is trying to win the election by using money power.
