Bengaluru: Drone technology has now made its way into the agricultural sector, bringing down the cost of production. It also serves as a solution to the farm labour shortage.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chintamani organised a demo of how drones can be used to spray pesticides, fertilisers to vegetable saplings, fruit-bearing trees, etc. The idea is to help the farmers to adopt the new technology. The demo was conducted in Hanumayyagarahalli and Somakalahalli villages.
In this demo, K. S. Vinodha, a scientist from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chintamani informed that in 8-10 minutes, an acre of the vegetable farm can be covered through the drones. She staid that 35 to 40 per cent of the pesticides can be saved using drones while 80 to 90 per cent of water can be saved.
M. Papi Reddy, Head of the Centre said drone technology is the future that can be a solution for many problems faced by the farmers including shortage of farm labourers, bringing down the cost of farm production, and so on.
Several companies in the State are currently providing drone services for agricultural purposes. This is expected to revolutionise the farming activities in the State.
