Bengaluru: The academic scene today sees yet another case of suicide with a nineteen year old BBS student having chosen to end his life by jumping off the sixth floor of his college building on Tuesday evening.

The incident took place at Hosur road in Electronic city where the University, along with the concerned authorities, is taking steps to understand what led to this misery.

Things were fine till mid-afternoon, where it was a normal day at college, with classes, followed by a lunch break where the boy was seen at the cafeteria, which was located on the fourth floor.

The PES University sadly mentions how the college does its part to see to the mental health of its students with a strong mentorship system in place, placing a member of faculty for every thirty students.

Despite this, and the fact that there were no exams or any other measurable academic activity going on at that point of time, the college had to see the death of one of its students.

In fact, Vignesh was known to have actively participated in these sessions without having shown any red flags, be it at home or to those around at college.

Yet, isn’t that the case with all youngsters committing suicide today. What makes the case even more hard is that the victim did not leave any death note or messages to bring to light the reason that led him to take his own life.

This calls for us as elders and mentors to read between the lines, to understand that they may not be okay, even when they say they are okay, and always emphasizing on the fact that in addition to such mentorship, they always have the below suicide helpline.
